Senior Management Team

Stephen Pauwels, BA (Hons.), MBA – Principal


Stephen co-founded BridgePoint Financial Services Inc. in August 2005 and has played an active role in developing the Canadian litigation finance sector since 2002. Since that time, Stephen has developed several financing structures which have assisted legal claimants, practices and litigation support service providers in addressing the unique funding challenges of the litigation process. Prior to this, Stephen was a member of the London, UK division of Deutsche Bank's Global Investment Banking division where he was involved in numerous public and private capital markets transactions throughout Europe. Stephen was a member of the corporate finance group at National Bank Financial in Toronto. Stephen received his masters in business administration from the University of Toronto in 1997 and an honors bachelor of arts degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1994.

John P. Rossos, B.Comm., LL.B., CFA – Principal


John co-founded BridgePoint Financial Services Inc. in August 2005 and has led the development of new financing and indemnity products and BridgePoint’s entry into new markets in Europe and the Caribbean. He was responsible for introducing financing and indemnity protection for class actions in Canada, which ultimately led to the creation of BridgePoint Indemnity Company (BICO). BICO pioneered legal cost protection in Canada offering protection for both legal practices and a broad cross section of legal claims covering virtually all areas of law. John had also identified an opportunity to enter the U.K. legal services market with the adoption of the Ontario Model by the U.K government drawing on BridgePoint’s expertise in Canada. This has led to the formation of SpectraLegal, an affiliated Irish based fund that finances U.K. legal services . He is the Chairman and CEO of BICO and the Chairman of SpectraLegal. He has published articles relating to emerging trends in litigation finance including third party financing for class action litigation and has presented at various conferences both domestically and internationally including the RAND Institute for Civil Justice Program dealing with Alternative Litigation Finance. He has a strong legal and financial background holding a bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Toronto, and a law degree from Queen’s University. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst. John is a member of the Ontario Bar, having been called in March 1994.

Brian Ginsler, HBA, MBA, CFA, CFP – Principal

Brian joined BridgePoint in 2013 and possesses diverse senior management experience from the finance, investment and wealth management industries. He received his Masters of Business Administration degree from the Harvard Business School and his Honours Business Administration degree from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designations. Prior to joining BridgePoint, Brian was the Chief Operating Officer of Gluskin Sheff + Associates Inc., one of Canada's pre-eminent wealth management firms, where he was responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the firm, including new product development, marketing, human resources, systems & IT, trading and other major firm projects. While at Gluskin Sheff, Brian was also a senior member of the firm's Business Development & Client Service team, seeking new clients for the firm and managing client relationships. Brian also brings extensive corporate finance and mergers & acquisitions experience from his previous roles as a member of the investment banking teams at CIBC World Markets and National Bank Financial.

Jeff Dawley, CPA, CA – Principal, Chief Financial Officer


Jeff joined BridgePoint in 2012 and brings 20 years of diverse financial management experience from a wide cross-section of Canadian and international organizations. Jeff spent 13 years at large Canadian corporations in various financial roles, followed by the past 8 years in senior leadership roles within entrepreneurial private or venture exchange listed companies. As Chief Financial Officer, Jeff played a key role in the initial public offering of a health benefit provider in 2006. In 2010, Jeff led the finance function for two Canadian-based international resource companies and subsequently, Jeff served as the Vice President of Finance and Corporate Controller for a North American financial technology company. Jeff holds a Chartered Professional Accountant designation from Ontario, Canada, a Certified Public Accountant designation from Illinois, USA and a Chartered Global Management Accountant designation, recognized in the UK and USA.

Amanda E. Bafaro B.A., LL.B. – Chief Risk & Compliance Officer

Amanda is an experienced litigation lawyer who brings extensive knowledge and practical expertise in all facets of personal injury law and litigation. Prior to joining BridgePoint, Amanda practiced exclusively with Paul Lee & Associates, a boutique firm that specialized in both defence and plaintiff personal injury law. After a brief period of insurance defence work, Amanda quickly shifted her focus to advocating for the rights of injured Plaintiffs and spent the balance of her career at Paul Lee running a successful practice. Amanda obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University and her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Ontario. She was called to the Ontario bar in 1997. As Chief Risk & Compliance Officer, Amanda will play a lead role in our business by providing insight and knowledge of personal injury practice as well as litigation outcomes and risk. She brings a wealth of experience to our business at a time of exceptional growth in BridgePoint’s business amidst transformation and legislative change in the personal injury arena.

Priscilla Cicek – Manager, Client Relations – Western Canada

Priscilla joined BridgePoint Financial Services Inc. in 2014. Priscilla is a Paralegal, having graduated from Capilano University and has 25 years’ experience in the legal field. She has managed complex personal injury claims, occupier’s liability, and commercial/construction litigation claims in British Columbia. She has extensive experience and knowledge of all aspects of a file, from intake, investigation, rehab and medical benefits, through to legal strategy, problem solving and assisting with negotiation of claims. Priscilla has also assisted with trial and appeal work. Priscilla has obtained her Certificate in Paralegal Studies and takes courses in Counselling. Priscilla is an instructor of the Paralegal Program at a post-secondary institution in Vancouver, BC and has published material on novel legal issues. She is also a Member of the BC Paralegal Association of British Columbia and the Canadian Professional Counsellors Association.

Cindy Williams – Director, Risk Assessment


Cindy resides in Nova Scotia and brings over 27 years of experience as a law clerk in the fields of plaintiff personal injury, insurance defence, commercial litigation and labour law. Cindy has assessed and managed a broad spectrum of legal claims from inception through settlement or trial. She obtained her law clerk diploma (honours) in 1979, Alternative Dispute Resolution (Honours) Certificate from Humber College in 2006 and Certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution from York University in 2007. Cindy has obtained her Q. Mediator designation and has several years of experience as a volunteer mediator/circle facilitator for a variety of agencies. Cindy is a member of ADRAC, ADR Canada and an associate member of APTLA.

Paula Wilson – Legal Assessment Specialist

Paula Wilson joined Bridgepoint in 2015. Paula has 23 years of experience as a litigation law clerk in personal injury and medical malpractice claims. She has extensive experience in managing, investigating and preparing files in a variety of legal claims from inception through to trial. She obtained her Law Clerk (Honours) Diploma in 1991.

Lindsey Hutton, P.Eng., LL.B. – Vice President, Legal Services

Lindsey joined BridgePoint in 2015 and is a senior corporate/banking lawyer bringing a wealth of experience and expertise in all facets of lending transactions, alternative forms of financing, restructuring and day to day corporate matters. Prior to joining BridgePoint, Lindsey was a partner at the Toronto office of Bennett Jones LLP, one of Canada’s pre-eminent full service law firms, acting for lenders and borrowers on sophisticated debt transactions, including asset-based and mezzanine loans, and on private mergers and acquisitions and associated private equity and debt financings. She also established herself as the Canadian counsel of choice for syndicated cross-border and international loans and leveraged buy-out financings originating from the major global financing centres. As the Vice President, Legal Services at BridgePoint, Lindsey’s responsibilities include taking a lead role advising on, negotiating and assisting with the structuring of all material transactions (including those of BridgePoint’s U.K. affiliate, SpectraLegal), with a focus on debtor/creditor, investor and indemnity matters. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Lindsey worked across Canada and in Germany as a manufacturing and performance design engineer for ABB, a multi-national engineering company in the power generation industry. Lindsey obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree (magna cum laude) from the University of Ottawa and her Bachelor of Science with Honours (Mechanical Engineering) from Queen’s University. She was called to the Ontario bar in 2000, is a Professional Engineer and is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Ontario Bar Association and the Women’s Executive Network.

Pauline Johnson – Vice President, Operations

Pauline joined BridgePoint in 2015. She brings over 18 years of experience in the financial sector, where she has held senior management positions guiding and directing various Operations departments. Prior to joining BridgePoint, Pauline was the Director of Client Administration at Gluskin Sheff + Associates Inc. where she managed the overall accountability for client administration activities related to client on-boarding, transaction processing and the delivery of client report and tax mailings. Pauline has operated in the capacity of Assistant Vice-President of Operations at Mackenzie Financial Corporation where she led a team of functional managers in all aspects of mutual fund operations and electronic documentation management. Pauline has also held management positions with IFDS and Invesco where she led various mutual fund teams while implementing various quality and productivity initiatives to enhance performance. Pauline has a Post-Graduate Immigration Law Practitioner (High Honours) Diploma and a Legal Administration Diploma.

Scott Sutherland – Director, Information Technology

Scott has led BridgePoint's Technology and Information Systems since 2012. He brings over 30 years of Information Technology experience from the insurance sector. Prior to BridgePoint, Scott held the Chief Information Officer (Canada) position, and later Vice-President, Global Application Development for the world's largest insurance services provider. Scott lead the inception, development and deployment of "CMS - Claims Management System" to over 18 countries within the company. Scott was a member of the company's Canadian Executive Management Team and Global Executive Committee. Scott has attended Queen's University in their Executive IT Management Program.

Angie Trinh, B.A. (Hons.) – Manager of Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness


Angie joined BridgePoint in 2007, and brings over ten years of experience as an administrator in the legal field. She previously worked at a prominent Bay Street law firm as a legal assistant. She is responsible for all settlement loan administration as well as general office management and oversees BridgePoint's team of loan administrators. Angie graduated from York University with an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in law and psychology. She is currently taking courses in Human Resources.

Grace Tsang, B.Sc., LL.B. – Director, Legal Services


Grace joined BridgePoint in 2012 and brings experience from a wide range of areas of the law. Prior to joining BridgePoint, Grace worked for over ten years in a full service firm in Toronto, practicing primarily in litigation, estates, and real estate, and as in house counsel. She has contributed articles and blogs about plaintiff loans and appeared as a panelist at conferences to discuss treatment and class action financing including the Canadian Institute's annual Class Action Conference. Her litigation experience includes work in the plaintiff personal injury field and class actions. Some of the notable decisions on which Grace has appeared include Logan v. Canada (Minister of Health), 2004 CanLII 184 (ON CA), where she appeared with co-counsel on the successful dismissal of an appeal from a decision which permitted the substitution of the representative plaintiff, and Logan v. Harper, 2003 CanLII 15592 (ON SC), where the plaintiffs were successful in obtaining further production from Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Canada. Grace obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Western Ontario and her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto. She is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Ontario Bar Association.
